I am working through conceptual designs for a constructed wetland system to be used for a 1-bedroom apartment with a small side yard. I would like the system to handle kitchen sink grey water. I am focused on the use of 30-gallon oak barrels, and various sized plastic and galvanized steel tubs situated on a rack system. The water will be used to irrigate fruit trees initially, however my goal is to work toward safe irrigation of vegetables and potentially a mixed system that serves as a filtration devise for a koi fish tank (55 gal).
I would appreciate any advise, but am particularly looking for:
1) designs for small-scale barrel-contained 'wetlands'
2) water quality issues including bio-degradable soaps and anoxic bacteria
3) A good source for a variety of manual-powered water pumps (most I have found are heavy-duty well pumps, but my needs are just to move water around through various barrels on a rack system)
Thanks
Chris
