slow it, spread it and sink sink it (water)

I am in San Agustin, Oaxaca, Mexico.

4 month rainy season, 8 month dry season.

We always have spring water coming from high up the mountains, year round. I thought today to use the spring water in the dry season to slow it, spread it and sink it into our land, we have 1/4 acre. what does one think of this idea? Any excess might flow into our stream which is a tributary stream to the stream it would have traveled in any case.

Maybe this is in Brad's new book, but i dont know, i just ordered it but a friend who is bringing it. but it wont be here till new years.

best, mark grossman

It would be a shame to deprive the stream of dry season flow for any more than you needed for immediate irrigation use.

The slow it, spread it, sink it applies to rain and storm runoff; you bank that water in the soil to reduce the amount of water you need to divert in the dry season.

If your substrate is open volcanic rock like we had in Morelos, the key is developing a living sponge, as once the water gets below that, it races to the center of the earth...
