cob roof anyone?

Postby markgrossman » April 14 2009

I am dreaming of a cob roof, high straw content, around 1 foot thick and would be a 15' diameter half sphere. i would build a re-usable form from wood and place the cob over this in like 4" lifts. leave to dry for many weeks and then take the form work away. does anyone know if this has been done?

i though of this because of my cob oven. its small, like a 3' diameter half sphere with a thickness of around 6". it has a lime coating and gets fresh limewash yearly. we put 2 heavy men on top of this dome with no effect

our climate is dry, 1 foot of rain a year and 8 months with no rain. we have little earthquakes weekly and larger ones every year or so.

i would love some ideas, experienced thoughts, etc. best, mark
