Tapping into downspout to flush system with rain water

Postby goldenlove » September 22 2009

On the Oasis Design Laundry to Landscape DVD, Art puts a barbed 'T' and valve next to the bottom of a downspout. Is there a specific way to connect into the downspout?

I really enjoyed the DVD!

Golden,

There is not yet a proven way to do this.

Here's my (theoretical) design:

1) A tight downspout that will produce pressure head equal to it's height.
2) A 1" line snaked inside the downspout, full height, with 1/8 or 3/16 holes swiss-cheesed through it, as a filtered inlet
3) A reduction that adapts the downspout to the 1" tubing inside, in a leak-free, but removable fashion (have to experiment with this)
4) A tee into the line to the landscape
5) A swing check valve to prevent rain from going back into the washer and overflowing all over the washroom floor, if the spill point of the washer is below the spill point of the lowest downspout

Please upload photos of your installation!
