ABS to HDPE?

Postby dave.is.greywater » January 12 2010

I'm designing a laundry-to-landscape / branched drain system at a commercial site, with three washing machines often running concurrently and all day during peak season. We want to collect all the greywater into one system. I've decided that 2" ABS is probably necessary for the collection end, but since we are dealing with hundreds of feet of pipe, I'd like to reduce the pipe size after the first flow split. Does the proper hardware exist for reducing from 2" ABS (or 1.5" ABS after a reduction from 2") to 1" HDPE hose? This seems to be the right size to work with after splitting the flow, and a more economical and user-friendly material.

I appreciate any advice.
Thanks!

Yes; the hardware exists.

Go from 2" to 1.5" as per Create an Oasis with Greywater, then from 1.5 ABS to 1" PVC. There are slip to compression fitting inserts that make a tight connection from PVC slip to 1" HDPE.

Pay very close attention to the detailing, to avoid lint-catching corners, and put clean out/ inspection ports everywhere.

Another option:

Use a quality, $500 effluent pump, and do the whole thing in HDPE, which will save you a fortune in laying out line, as it then doesn't have to slope 2%

Please send photos to the list when you are done!
