"large distance horizontally" (1" HDPE distribution line)

Postby goldenlove » January 24 2010

How long can I run a 1" HDPE distribution line from a washing machine that produces 17 gal per wash? I would like to run it 128 feet. Are there any table in Art's book or on the Oasis website that will answer this question? Or do you have experience with this? Note: very slight mounding toward the end of the run.

There is a limited experience base with this.

Theoretically, any distance downhill is fine; gravity balances friction.

If you have a rise at the end of the line, so it makes a giant "U", at a minimum you'll end up with lots of stagnant water in the line, and the washer pump will have a fair amount of inertia to overcome to get that column of water moving, which could lead to wear on the pump.

If you can avoid the U, by anchoring the line to a fence, tunneling through the hump, or some other means, I suggest you do so.

Otherwise, please try it and report back how it worked!

Yours,
