Washing machine drain is under house - can I get it to go up

Postby Emily » May 24 2008

We moved into an older manufactured home this year and I really want to begin to use greywater for the trees etc. The washing machine is in the center of the house, and the drain line goes under the house, below the level of the ground. Can I get it to go up to a gravity drum or a drumless system? Access to the crawl space is pretty easy. We have boys and tons of laundry - hate to waste all that water.

You can use a drumless laundry system to move water down, then up. The downside is that the water in the line between uses will go septic. This isn't a big deal if the volume is small and the use frequent. You will probably wish to abandon the old, large diameter gravity line and plumb the whole thing from scratch with 1". Use polyethylene if you can instead of PVC.

Good luck!
