Oasis Permaculture Design
Oasis Design is a wellspring of original content and designs which you won't find elsewhere.
We specialize in the nuts and bolts of sustainability—practical systems for living well, in harmony with nature and each other. These include designs for managing water, wastewater, energy, money and other resources.
Our goal is to live really well, on a small amount of well-managed resources, and help others do the same. We don't need resource wars...we just need to make the most of our fair share.
There are several hundred pages of free permaculture information here on our web site, as well as an additional several hundred in our books and articles.

Art Ludwig's Bio
Art Ludwig is an ecological systems designer with 27 years full-time experience in water, wastewater systems, energy, shelter and human powered transport. His specialty is complex, integrated "systems of systems." Art has studied and worked in 22 different countries, consulted for the states of New York 
and New Mexico on water reuse policy, and given dozens of lectures and workshops.
He designed his own education in Ecological Systems Design, graduating from UC Berkeley. At Berkeley, he developed the first cleaners specifically designed to be biocompatible with plants and soil, and founded a successful business to manufacture and distribute them. Art studied permaculture with Bill Molllison in New Zealand and Australia. He has authored numerous articles (including one on water testing procedures) as well as the books "Water Storage" "Principles of Ecological Design," and "Create an Oasis with Greywater."

Permaculture (Permanent Culture) is the conscious design and co-creative evolution of agriculturally productive ecosystems and cooperative and economically just social systems which have the diversity, stability and resilience of 'natural' systems. It is the harmonious integration of landscape and people providing their food, energy, shelter and other material and non-material needs in a sustainable way. The practice and development of liberating mental, emotional and spiritual ways of being. It seeks to provide a sustainable and secure place for living things on this earth.

Permaculture seeks to design sustainable lifestyles based on conditions unique to each place and designed according to the same principles by which nature integrates other species into her ecosystems. While permaculture obtains its design principles through careful study and search for comparable principles in nature, permaculture strategies are based on the realities of the 20th century.

Permaculture is a body of knowledge, susceptible to learning & teaching. But it is is also a way of organizing knowledge, a connecting system that integrates science, art, politics, anthropology, sociology, psychology, & the diverse experiences & resources available in any community.

Derived from "Permanent" and "Culture," as follows: Permanent: From the Latin permanens, to remain to the end, to persist throughout (per = through, manere = to continue) - Culture: From the Latin cultura - cultivation of land, or the intellect.
