Hone your editing/ desktop publishing, marketing and/or web skills and learn about ecological living while working on interesting projects in a beautiful environment. Long term partnerships preferred.

 

The job descriptions and schedules are flexible. We would inventory your skills and needs then mesh them with Oasis's work needs if it looked like it was a good fit.

The compensation would include money, training, and possibly room and board, matched to your skill level, commitment, and the quality and quantity of work done.

The work touches on many aspects of running a small business and ecological living. It would include an unusually broad set of tasks. We are looking for people with a solid core of existing skills, but this is also a great opportunity to learn develop these skills in more depth or learn others.

The work site is the Oasis office/home located in a small community in a beautiful canyon in the mountains behind Santa Barbara (more about the site). The food is vegetarian and nearly 100% organic. Our renovated 1920 summer cabin on a quarter acre features intensive edible landscaping with 40 varieties of fruit trees,vegetable garden, solar hot water, solar space heating, and a wide variety of energy and water conserving features, with more constantly being added. There is a fully equipped carpentry/masonry/wood/bicycle workshop, and a fully equipped electronic office. There is a nice room and place to camp outside. This is a highly sought after place to live. We have an outdoor bathing garden, and a wild swimming hole nearby. When we're not working we're generally swimming, drumming, or dancing.

This work would need to be done at least 50% on site in our office. The more independently you were able to work the more hours would be available...this is an 8-24 hour a week position, with a lot of schedule flexibility. The ideal candidate would be happy working for a relatively small amount of clean money for the good cause of getting this important information out.

The work consists primarily of maintaining and expanding this web site, including generating scripts, maintaining optimal interface between our site and it's e commerce functionality, and possibly including shifting it's structure to database-driven sometime in the next 5-10 years.

A high level of competency is essential.

The core web guru tasks take several hours at odd intervals—each month or two. There is usually minimal time pressure or schedule constraints for implementation or maintenance, although there are troubleshooting emergencies once in a while which require immediate attention.

The ideal candidate would be interested in working a small number of hours over the long term for a good cause and would be happy to work for a smaller number of cleaner dollars than usual.
